All the different voices

After reading some of Sobel's '99th Monkey', one thing that has struck me already which was relayed to him from spiritual gurus is the emphasis on this different personalities and voices which exist and compete for the dominating narrative of our internal dialogue. Like Freud's super-ego, ego and id, we have encouraging and discouraging/critical voices inside us. The low achievers let the critical voice dominate them; they don't believe they can accomplish anything and so it's no worth even trying, ending in a negative spiral of low achievement which propounds their belief that they will never achieve anything in their lives. So the key thing in each person's day is to do something that lets that encouraging, confident voice rise through, as it seems to only exist when the brain is excited and secreting all the pleasure hormones. This can be accomplished most healthily through exercise, or meditation, or doing some other enjoyable activity, though the effect of that wears off quicker than exercise or meditation.
